We Thought There Were Only 2 Kittens!

My husband thought it odd that there were only two kittens that the feral cat momma were storing in our garage. And he was right…there are three. They are so darn cute, and I’m not complaining. We were actually talking about getting barn cats from the SPCA to help keep mice and voles out of the barn.

The black kitty on the right is the new one

When Chris went out to close the chicken coop he said he swore he saw three kittens over in the corner eating, but he didn’t get close. Then I worried that, perhaps, it was a baby skunk, like the one that sprayed Jack a couple of years ago. But he said “nope, I am pretty sure it was another kitten.”

So when I went out last night I fed the kittens, and then stood there still as a statue. Sure enough, another kitten came slowly out and started eating with his siblings. When I moved just a touch he went running away, back behind the area he was hiding in. He is quite timid. I wonder if the momma cat has been feeding this one the whole time because I’m sure it’s not one that was brought into the garage, and hidden up in the ductwork along with the other two.

So now, my only worry currently is trapping and getting the momma cat fixed before she get pregnant again. She will be tough to catch. Any suggestions from others who have had to do this would be very welcome!
